Teaching Our teaching combines academic expertise with real-world experience so that your learning is practical, relevant and industry-focussed.

You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials, supplemented by a range of learning activities such as industry visits and guest speakers.
The course includes a one week international study trip to develop your awareness of national and international business. The cost of this study trip is included in course fees and there can be no full or partial refunds for anyone who does not attend the residential week.
The course is taught in four modules of six week blocks. Each module is made up of two days on campus for intensive study periods. Alongside traditional lectures, there is a strong emphasis on active learning. Prior to each teaching session, students are provided with videos, case studies and suggested readings via the virtual learning environment VLE ; these form the prior knowledge around which the different activities will focus each week.
In addition, there are out-of-the-classroom activities such as company visits and guest speakers. Independent study and project work is completed in your own time with online support through the University's virtual learning environment, Blackboard.
In your final semester, you will work on a Business Innovation Live Project, acting as a consultant to your own or an external organisation, providing advice and solutions for a real business problem.

During the final semester we were required to undertake a consultancy assignment with a real business. This was a wonderful end to the programme and enabled me to turn my learning experience into practical application. I and other classmates in my group went to work for a large factory.
We were treated as employees of the company, assigned to projects that the company was working on and we carried out these projects according to the task schedules. We worked in real jobs like true company employees in a highly professional working environment.
It also enabled me to learn a lot about excellent private sector organisational experience and thinking and to apply it to the public sector.
It was a fundamental asset in shaping my career and continues to help me in leading a major, complex organisation. In the 21st century, this still holds strong.
